How To Create A Healthy Relationship With Money: After Years of a Bad One!

by | Feb 15, 2021

Your attitude about money is a direct reflection of your relationship with it.

When you constantly seem to struggle with money matters, it generally stems from a fear that you will never have enough of it.

Unfortunately, when we feed that fear, that tends to be exactly what we get. When we can get to the core of why we have a tough relationship with money, we are then able to steadily shift to an abundance mindset.

Today we are going to talk about how to break out of any lack or scarcity mindset regarding your finances, in order to start cultivating a healthy relationship with money.

How can you create a better mindset around your money? When we are mindful of our thoughts and beliefs, we are then better able to correct what needs to change for the better.

Ask yourself this: when did you begin feeling prickly instead of prosperous? Generally, this is a fight or flight response that stems back to a bad experience regarding finances, where we become afraid that history may in fact repeat itself.

Remember, positive thinking produces positive results. One good decision really does lead to another, and by changing your outlook via the conversations you have about money, you are then able to shift the narrative from surviving to thriving.

How can you create healthy habits around your spending? Mindfulness is everything. By spending mindfully, we are better able to be proactive versus reactive.

Planning for big expenses, rather than waiting until the moment arises, can make or break our bank account in a major way. Not only is this a great way to alleviate stress and provide some peace of mind, but it is also a solid way to invest in your future.

By investing in your financial future, you are really choosing to invest in yourself. When we develop healthy spending habits, we further enforce our positive outlook regarding money. One hand really washes the other, and we are then able to experience the trickle-down effect into all areas of our lives: mentally, physically, and emotionally.

How can you change your attitude about wealth and success? Our outlook on wealth and success is typically ingrained in us from a young age. Maybe you grew up in a household where money was tight, and certain attitudes and beliefs were passed down as a result. Maybe your parents thought that rich people were jerks, so you were brought up thinking that having money was a bad thing. Or maybe your parents put you under constant pressure to succeed, and you were constantly left feeling like you didn’t measure up.

Whatever the case, the best way to shift this attitude is through gratitude and service to others. When we focus on what we do have instead of what we don’t, it opens up the doors of possibility and opportunity.

When we give, we really receive and seeing the bigger picture of how much you have to be thankful for can be powerfully moving. Regardless of where we are at in life, there is always something to be grateful for. Volunteering at a soup kitchen or shelter can be a powerful reminder that one man’s trash is another one’s treasure.

I hope that this gives you some perspective on how changing your money mindset can truly help to fatten your wallet. If you feel that you would benefit from one-on-one financial coaching, schedule your 45 Minute Initial Discovery Session.
